Metaplanet, the Japanese firm, made headlines Monday by announcing a significant expansion of its Bitcoin holdings.

The company purchased 1,088 Bitcoin for $117.5 million, bringing its total to over 8,888 BTC, valued at more than $930 million. This latest acquisition, part of a larger strategy launched in April 2024, positions Metaplanet as a major player in the corporate Bitcoin space, leading in Asia and ranking among the top ten globally. The company is aiming for 10,000 BTC by year-end and has already acquired 7,126 BTC in 2024. The purchase was funded in part by a recent $50 million zero-interest bond issuance.

Metaplanet reported a 66.3% year-to-date BTC yield and a 2,684 BTC gain. Bitcoin traded near $105,000 during Monday's Asian trading hours.
